- ScriptSwitcher8
- Release Notes
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
- WARNING: ScriptSwitcher8 was developed for Apple internal use only.
- It is not supported or tested by Apple and is not not guaranteed to work.
- Backup everything you care about....
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- Usage
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ScriptSwitcher8 is a quick way to modify all the resources needed to switch the primary script (e.g Roman, Japanese,
- Chinese, etc.) of your system. It is useful for testing and avoids having to use resedit to change resources.
- It works on versions of Mac OS 7.0 and 8.0.
-
- Run ScriptSwitcher8. Select the script you want to be your primary script system from the available
- items in the pop-up menu. You can only select scripts for which the resources are available either from
- a localized system or a language kit.
-
- Reboot. All system text, data, time, and other formats will be set to those of the primary script.
-
- Note:
- Inconsistent installation of script systems will produce inconsistent results when switching.
- When in doubt, reinstall your entire system and script systems.
- ScriptSwitcher does NO consistency checking.
-
-
- Process
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ScriptSwitcher8 performs the following tasks:
-
-
- --MacOS 8:
-
- 1) Sets the itlc script code and region code to a region that corresponds to the primary script.
-
- --Pre-System 8:
-
- 1) Sets the itlc script code and region code to a region that corresponds to the primary script.
-
- 2) Changes the Chicago font id for non-Roman primary script to id = 16383 or sets it back to 0 for Roman.
- The Roman itlb SysFond is updated to reflect this.
-
- 3) Changes finder preferences to reflect font and size for the primary script.
-
- It performs one additional function for clients who use Macsbug:
- If ScriptSwitcher finds a “Debugger Prefs” file in your system folder that does not contain
- a 'KCHR'(0) resource, it ASKS you if you want to add one. It will add the 'KCHR'(0) resource from the system
- if it finds one (which it should), otherwise ScriptSwitcher uses its copy.
- MacsBug needs this resource to function correctly when the current keyboard (key script) is not the U.S. keyboard.
-
-
- Changes from the Original ScriptSwitcher
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------
- ScriptSwitcher8 updates ScriptSwitcher to work on System 8.0
